Julia Pelletier

Julia Pelletier has always strove to combine her two passions: illustration and fashion design. She first carried out studies in Textile Design and silkscreen printing in Paris and later enrolled at the Saint Martins School of Art in London where she studied fashion for three more years. In the year 2000, she landed in Barcelona and four years later, made her dream come true. She has become a designer-illustrator with her own trademark ¿quepasajulia?, and a fashion store called Comité, located in the city’s historical centre.
The fusion of both worlds – drawing and fashion – is the standard guiding all of her designs. The garments reserve a visible place for the patterns (pockets, sleeves, necks, skirt flares and backs) which can be seen as mobile illustrations filled with intention. Each collection is named after a base motif exploited to its full potential by Julia and which is normally inspired in nature, probably because of her first childhood years spent at the French Massif Central. Her passions include drawing birds and butterflies, two animals which provide a broad range of colours, textures and drawings and which for her symbolise calmness and freedom.
As an illustrator, Julia has applied all drawing techniques from watercolours and gouaches to silkscreens, pencil drawings and Chinese ink. She is particularly proud of her most personal projects such as the illustrated book about the Rain and the travel journal illustrated for Matilde Asensi´s novel, published by Planeta editorial. Teaching is another field which she likes to explore. She has given illustration courses for children and adults in Paris and London, and is currently teaching the Creative Illustration class at IDEP and a course on Silkscreen and Printing Over Fabrics given at Barcelona’s European Institute of Design IED.
