Miriam Ocáriz

Pattern print cotton t-shirts was Miriam Ocáriz´s first step into the fashion world. Since then, twelve years have passed and her clothing brand – carrying her own name – with an unmistakable style and flawless manufacture, is well-known and enjoys international recognition.
Patterns have always been her trademark. They are carried out manually by means of silkscreen printing therefore granting exclusiveness to each piece. She specialised in silkscreen and intaglio printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Basque Country University. These studies were combined with fashion courses at the Escuela Lanca of Bilbao. Using printmaking as a creation base, Miriam has developed other technical aspects concerning dressmaking, giving her collections a well-cared patronage and quality fabrics.
Her style is a combination of boldness and romanticism, delicacy and strength. Her patterns, filled with symbols and codes, express a rich and complex interior world. She has incorporated new articles to her usual t-shirts, skirts and dresses such as coats, shoes and jackets, one of her favourite garments. Black, bubble gum pink and pastels in general are her colours of choice. And her symbol: the ribbon which she relates with childhood, elegance, convention and fun and that she considers to be an inexhaustible source of meanings and nuances.
Her studio is located in Bilbao and her collection are available in multibrand stores around the world. This designer has participated in the Gaudí and Cibeles runways for over 10 years and has also presented her collection at international showrooms in Paris and Milan. From 2004 to 2006, she managed the woman’s clothing line for the Catalan company Armand Basi. Her latest project was launching her first shoe collection under the label Miriam Ocáriz & Fosco and is currently finishing a line of sunglasses and accessories.
Her work has been exhibited in art galleries showing her drawings and designs both in fabrics and other mediums.
