These illustrator out of conviction studied architecture and interior design in France and Italy. She started to collaborate with different studios in Milan and Brussels until in 2003 she decided to turn her life around, she moved to Barcelona searching for sun and inspiration and channel all her creativity in illustrating.
She began as an architect but change paths since architecture allowed her small creative moments. She enjoyed drawing and illustrating much more. Her first illustration were commissioned by Woman magazine. She then worked with the French cultural magazine Muze and others including Mood, Elle à Paris and Mairie-Claire. the next step was illustrating posters, post cards and books. She illustrated two volumes on fashion history for Milan Editions, a subject matter with which she feels specially comfortable. She has further made drawings for companies like Montblanc, Phildar and Lacoste.
Sophie defines her style as feminine and poetic and she recognises a certain influence from art nouveau. Her drawing are first made in pencil and then traces the line with a pen. Next, she scans the drawing and adds colours and textures gathered from books and magazines, always working by superimposing layers. Her illustrations are commonly starred by young women, drawn with soft lines and wrapped in endless details.
Sophie Leblanc currently lives in Paris where she forms part of Studio Büro, a group of illustrators who participate in exhibitions, festivals and interactive interventions. Nowadays, apart from her press collaborations, she is making an illustration book based on the Japanese culture.
