Raphael Garnier
A graduate of École supérieur des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg, Raphaël is a 25-year old French graphic designer who has been based in Paris since 2008. He takes on orders from the music and fashion scenes, and it is worth mentioning his collaboration with Bernhard Willhelm and Jutta Kraus for whom he creates designs. Alongside which, he is called upon to exhibit work at various showcases like the International Design Biennial in Saint-Étienne, France. Right now, he is preparing for an upcoming design exhibition due to open in London in November 2009. He feels at home in the Information Age – LEDs, the keyboard and the mouse are predominant features in the creative process for Raphaël. Although the work invariably springs from some small design or even a collage. He is constructing a lookout from which he coolly observes us. Raphaël’s range is broad, comprising tiny scaly birds and labyrinths of different shapes. Using violet humour and wireframe amusements, he brings the screen and the blank page to life. His metal caves grind into different forms that sprout curiosities. Fabrics of computer-embroidered designs are Raphaël’s signature seal, and during bouts of insomnia he fashions 12” record sleeves.
